Hello guys. (The unofficial introduction)
Prospective pilot here.
Just did some searches online, and found this. Decided it might be nice to interface with actual pilots instead of WO's from other MOS's, specifically my own (3C0X1, Communications Computer Technician equivalent, I think Army WO is 351A).
Some things about me:
I am still fairly young, at just 21 years of age.
I am an Airman First Class on the enlisted side of the Air Force.
I am happily married, with my inlaws being both retired Army, and my father inlaw being a helo pilot himself.
I live in San Antonio and am stationed at Lackland AFB.
I am currently getting my package together, to submit to the Army, for next year. My package only lacks some extraneous schooling that would add some significant weight, but not quite commission ready. I hope to finish my Associate's in Computer Technology this Spring, furthering my ambition.
For me, the idea of an Army Warrant Officer fulfills my desire for multiple objectives. First, as an active Air Force member, I am occassionally dissapointed in the lack of "real military" experiences, especially for my current AFSC (MOS). I am a terrible shot, my Air Force combat training is meager, and the only hopes I *had* for some extra activities, was to go to Jump School. Yet, the Air Force has no need for a Computer Technician to "waste his time jumpin' outta planes". But fortunately, through the Army, my hope is to fulfill 1 of 2 of my childhood dreams. Either be a pilot, or a chaplain.
After some thought, some introspection, and a hefty hit by reality, I have realized, I am not suitable for clergy. Which leaves me with one choice: fulfill my destiny as a pilot (which in turn would further my initial realization to serve God, by bettering the temple in which he lives: me), and understand my purpose.
As I have started to get ready for my transition, I have recognized an interesting thing. The more I learn of the rotary wing aviator, and rotary wing aircraft themselves, I realize how much they meant to me as a child, and how I have always been fascinated. Now that my appetite has been whetted, I feel the hunger can not stop. I dream about helicopters, I look up pictures of helicopters, I read about helicopters, I buy books of helicopters, I read old Vietnam Chinook stories, just to get the feeling of helicopters, heck, I bore my wife with what I learned about helicopters during the day. And yet, the hunger seems warranted. As I go, the Lord seems to smile upon my choice, and every turn I make in this direction, is another blessing. I recieve aid from all sides of the house: including my fellow Air Force members, joint force Army members I come across, the adoration of my ex-Army inlaws, and even the love of my never-impressed father. My wife doesn't even whine about my choice! I feel drawn to this, as man feels drawn to destiny throughout his life.
Well, I just wanted to say hey, and if some others of you would like to introduce themselves, I would love to hear from my seniors (as you are, in rank, and age.). Have a great (Air Force/Army) day!
